Lake Como

Italy is the country of the good life, which is noticed as soon as you enter the country. The Lombardy region (Lombardia) in northern Italy welcomes you with open arms. Out of all the alp regions Lombardy has the most amounts of lakes, each with picturesque villages, located between the hills.

All the way back to the times of the Roman Empire, many travellers have come to Como, an important town at that time. Tourists still come to lago di Como. With its steep shores, Lake Como is one of the deepest lakes in Europe. You can find the best views on the mountaintops at the so called Tre Pievi (Three Parishes), which exist of the villages Dongo, Gravedona and Domaso, with Colico on the other side.
Parts of the old city centre of Como still have city walls, with famous buildings like the Duomo and the Broletto. Further north you can find old fishing villages like Cernobbio, Moltrasio, Argegno, Torno and Lezzeno.

Heading to the province capital Lecco, the mountain ridges of the Monte Legnone and the Grigne dominate the landscape. Here, the more than 2500 m high mountain tops seem to go straight down into the lake.

The Bellagio peninsula, the little cape of Menaggio, and Varenno have also been popular for a long time with Italians as well as foreigners. Here the ‘dolce vita’ is lived to its fullest. You can enjoy good food and excellent views on the azure blue water, in elegant 18th-century country houses, but also in the attractive little shopping streets.
